The Art of judith page
I am an extremely visual person. I love the physical act of painting, the color and the sensuality of the brush. The San Luis Valley offers lots of stimulus for combining my love of painting with my narrative imagery and symbolism. My art reflects a way of seeing the world with a sense of wonder, where any thing can happen, where things are a little askew. I hope to excite a sense of curiosity in my viewers, that they might look at the world a little differently.

Judith's original images are primarily mixed media illustrations that are meticulously created in many layers & stages. First, the line art is rendered by hand in india ink. This is then followed with multiple layers of translucent watercolor that creates the depth & subtlety of the work. Then solid areas are filled in using gouache & colored pencil creates more detail & gradation. The final step in many of the pieces includes hand illuminated dots & details using iridescent acrylics. The finished result is a rich & detailed narrative, often evoking mythical references.
